Balance

Day 32

No matter how passionate you are about the work you do, you must take the time to nurture all aspects of your being. It’s important that you care for your health, spend time with your loved ones, set aside some “me time” to relax and rejuvenate, allot some time for entertainment, play and laughter, and make time to nourish your body and soul.

When you recharge, it raises your energetic vibration and in turn brings more joy and balance to your life.

When you’ve got a lot on the go, it can be difficult to take a pause, but there’s always a way to remedy the situation. I believe that when you commit to something, there’s no backing out. I’ve believed this since I was just a little pint. It’s why I haven’t liked cow’s milk since I was about 3 years old. Even before I turned 3, I drank everything from a glass, except milk; I would only drink milk out of a baby bottle. My parents tried to throw away my bottles a couple of times, and then had to buy more so I’d drink milk. Finally, I made them a deal that when my grandmother returned from a 3 month trip to India, I would stop drinking out of the bottle on my own. I still remember taking the bottles out to the garbage on our way to the airport to pick her up. True to my word, I never drank from a baby bottle again. I also stopped drinking cow’s milk, well, at least when I was old enough to choose for myself.

So, when well-intentioned friends and family suggested that I blog every few days instead of daily, I told them that that was out of the question. My childhood belief is still firmly in tact – I made a commitment to blog daily, and I am going to blog daily. The idea of freeing up some time in my day is appealing though. I asked myself how I could continue to blog daily and still have enough time for everything else. Of course, the universe responded with a answer.

When you phrase a problem in the form of a question, your subconscious goes to work to find a solution.

I grew up in home that was all about the food. My friends still joke about coming over and not being able to leave without my dad forcing them to eat something. Both of my parents had a passion for food and cooking, and spent hours together in the kitchen coming up with refined techniques to make already amazing food even better. I can reproduce most of their meals, but sometimes, even though I already know how, if I ask my mom how to make something just before I cook it, magic happens. I believe that if she tells me the recipe, my food will taste better, and that’s exactly what happens. Our thoughts and beliefs create our reality.

A few years ago, after I finished culinary school, I started working on a recipe book. At the time, I had some health issues and was gluten free, so I developed a lot of paleo recipes. I saw a parallel between what I thought was a healthy diet and traditional indian home cooking, so I recruited my mom in an effort to document all of my parent’s amazing recipes. The recipe book was going to serve in part as “a memoir, a tribute to my father, a guide to healthy living, a woman’s struggle and journey to find herself and her passion…all in one“. I had forgotten that I started it until this morning. My mom and I didn’t get very far in documenting her recipes, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

Now, I have an opportunity to document their recipes and share them in this venue. I had intended to add my food avenue to Kurilane at some point in the future, so why not do it sooner rather than later? I have some material from the recipe book I started, plus many other recipes I’ve created over the years, so it will free up some time in my day, and I did say I was going to share my vegan journey.

Hmm, desire to blog daily and have more free time…write about my journey…find my passion…make a tribute to my father…write a memoir and a recipe book…create a guide to healthy living. Synchronicity. Manifestation.

I couldn’t have imagined that my chicken scratch from a few years ago of my parents’ recipes would come in handy, and now I have a use for that material. Nothing you ever do is a waste of time. Everything has a specific purpose, you may not know what it is, or how it fits into the master plan, but believe me, it always does.

The universe is constantly giving us opportunities to help us realize our dreams, we just have to recognize them, and act when they show up.

I recognize that adding the food section to my blog is an opportunity to manifest all of these desires. So, I acted on it, and built the foundation, and I’m unveiling the manifestation of that desire today, Feed Street. My desire to tell my story of a lifetime of love and memories through food is now a reality.

I welcome you to KLFS, and invite you to savor your journey. Please do keep coming back as I continue to add delicious vegan and vegetarian recipes for you to try.
