Exercise Your Soul

Day 96

“People tend to be generous when sharing their nonsense, fear, and ignorance. And while they seem quite eager to feed you their negativity, please remember that sometimes the diet we need to be on is a spiritual and emotional one. Be cautious with what you feed your mind and soul. Fuel yourself with positivity and let that fuel propel you into positive action.”

– Steve Maraboli

It’s Friday and I’m just starting to write Tuesday’s post. I’ve had a low week, my computer still isn’t working so I haven’t been able to write my daily posts. One negative experience led to another, and I spiraled into a place where I was feeling very less-than-positive. I felt like packing it all in, and calling it a day for this whole positivity project.

Watch your thoughts. They attract matching energetic vibrations. If you focus on the negative, you will attract more negativity into your experience.

Fortunately, my mother has been listening to what Kurilane has to say, and she thinks it’s worth saying. When I told her how I was feeling, she offered some kind and supportive words about how I’ve embarked on a lofty journey and that I must not let these minor hiccups get me down. She encouraged me to keep going and use my own words as inspiration. Hmm. Yes, I suppose there’s no better place to look for inspiration than within.

This is what I found.

Happiness is definitely a choice. In every moment, you have the ability to change how you feel no matter what you’re experiencing.

I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m saying it’s possible. You don’t have to go from zero to sixty in 30 seconds, just one feeling at a time. When everything seems to be going wrong, and you’re feeling down, if you can’t find something that makes you feel good, find one tiny little thing to focus on that makes you feel less bad, and let that soak in. Then take the next step, find another thing to smile about in your world. Keep repeating this process and before you know it, you will be back in the positive zone.

Talk you someone who will help you focus on the positive. For me, that was my mother’s words of encouragement. Once I let that soak in, watching my cat Ippa all curled up, sleeping peacefully made me smile from within. And then I started thinking about how much progress I’ve made instead of being upset about the obstacles in my path. After all, the obstacles are merely a course correction, showing me that I’m looking at the wrong things. This minor issue of not having a working computer to write my blog is not going to stop me from moving forward. Just power on Rajni, decide to be happy, and make it happen. And I’m writing again.

Instead of dwelling on the negative, even though sometimes it feels easier and more comfortable, resist the urge. Fuel the positive. Take every little ray of sunshine you can find, and bask in it. It will lead to a brighter day.

I promise.
