Second Chances

Day 244

“But for that one moment – that one mistake – life would have been much different today. While it can’t be taken back, life is about second chances.”

– William E. Lewis Jr.

Today marks the completion of Kurilane’s eighth month of my year-long Positivity Project. I’ve covered the gamut as far as topics go, ranging from how to use the Law of Attraction to consciously create the life of your dreams, to how to stay positive in the face of adversity, and how to forgive. I’ve shared tips on how to clear limiting beliefs, and I’ve emphasized the importance of loving yourself. I launched my tornado-of-kindness campaign to encourage random acts of kindness, and I’ve shared inspiring stories of people who have paid-it-forward. And the list goes on.

I’ve noticed that certain themes resonate more than others – when I talk about the fact that it’s ok to make mistakes, or let you know that although you create your experiences, it’s not your fault when “bad” things happen, the response is always greater. So, it’s fitting that today, I’m going to talk about what happens after we make a mistake.

Nobody’s perfect. All any of us can do is strive to be our best selves, and when we, or those around us fall and mess things up, we must be willing to accept the error, forgive ourselves and each other, and try to do better next time

“I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance…that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.”

– Maya Angelo

I’m sure you’re familiar with the mess Ryan Lochte got himself into when he lied about being robbed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. There’s no denying it, making up that story to hide his mistake was really poor judgment. When I heard what really happened, I thought, OMG, you messed up your career over that, you should’ve just told the truth Ryan. Oh well.

I felt even worse for him when I found out that many companies had pulled their endorsement deals. I wasn’t surprised, I just felt bad for the guy – we all do dumb things, especially when we’ve had a few too many. So, when I heard that Dancing With The Stars did not pull him from the new season’s line-up, I felt very glad for him. Here’s what his Dancing partner Cheryl Burke had to say about it:

Thank you DWTS, for giving Ryan a second chance. #dontmessitupRyan

Have you been kicking yourself for something you regret doing, or are you holding on to resentment over a mistake someone else made? Maybe it’s time for a second chance; time to let it go. In life, we mess up, let’s try to have a positive attitude, and not to keep living in the past – like Cheryl said “[we] make mistakes, we all need to move on and move past it.”

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  1. I know Emma – we are always the hardest on ourselves. It’s the journey, and as long as you keep working at it, you’re headed in the right direction…I love you, I forgive you, and I thank you! 🙂
