Dream big. The sky’s the limit. Reach the stars.

I’m sure you’ve been told this, and you may have said it to others. I have. In fact, I often write about setting lofty goals because anything is possible, and if you believe you can achieve big things, you can – that is an absolute truth.

Sometimes, however, our greatest pleasures come from the small things, the silly things, the nondescript-everyday-things.

Today is one of those days.

When I got my cat, Ippa, from the rescue shelter, she was 8 weeks old. She was a tiny little thing – barely the size of my palm. She was wearing a plain red collar from the shelter when I brought her home, which I took off and let her roam free right from day one. Here’s a clip of her arrival home:

I had picked out another collar at the shelter that I intended to put on her once she was grown. It was a beautiful red collar with a satin finish, white little polka dots, and red heart-shaped bell.

Months later, when she was grown, I tried to put the satin collar on, but she wasn’t used to wearing a collar and fussed with it, so I took it off, even though I loved how adorable she looked with it on.

The collar has since been sitting on my coffee table for almost two years, and I never try put it on her because I know she doesn’t like it. She let me put it on her today, and not only did she not fuss, but she seems to like it.

It makes me happy to see that collar on her.
