Common Ground

Day 323

“Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.”

– Wilma Rudolph

Believing that human beings are different because of geography, creed, culture or what have you, is a big fat myth. We are all the same. I’ve written several posts throughout the year with a message that we all come from the same Divine Source; that we are one. You can see some of those posts here.

Remember that toy you had when you were a kid? This one, with all the different shapes that fit into one big ball? It was probably one of the first toys you ever had, and if you’re a parent, I’m pretty sure you’ve bought your children some version of it too. Didn’t that toy teach us that no matter what shape, size or color you are, we all belong together? At the end of the day, when we’re finished playing, we all fit into the same place?

For today’s Food For Thought Friday series, I’d like to pose a question –

What is it that makes us different?

Religion? Does it change the fact that we believe in a Divine Creator, by whatever name?
Skin color? Does it change how our bodies function?
Culture? Does it change our feelings and preferences?
Sexual orientation? Does it change our ability to love?

A friend sent me a link to Amazon’s latest commercial this morning that echoes this sentiment. Take a look at this magical Amazon ad:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
