Earlier this week, I received an email with an intriguing blog challenge – to write on any topic, but through a new lens. The host of the challenge concluded with a remark that holds true for everything in life: when you see things from a different perspective, who knows what you might reveal.
I decided to write yesterday’s post in the style of a recipe card in response to the challenge. With thoughts of recipes on my mind, and with the holiday season approaching, I thought I’d write something about the magic of gratitude. I didn’t really know what the “recipe” was going to be, but started working on the post anyway.
Desires have a way of working themselves out the way they’re meant to when you just let go, and let things unfold on their own.
I used to have a collection of recipe cards when I was a kid, and I often think of one of those recipes in particular. It was one of my dad’s favorites, and I’ve wished I could find the recipe on many occasions. Funny thing is that I’ve never tried to find it.
Yesterday, purely by “accident“ I found it. I was actually just planning to use the name of the recipe as the title for the post, so I did a search online to see if I could find a good feature image. To my absolute delight, I found not one, but two sites that not only had the recipe, but they also had the actual vintage recipe card from back in the day! By looking for an image instead of the recipe, I found something far more valuable to me. I am elated and so very grateful – everything really does happen for a reason. Here’s the recipe, with the original vintage recipe card for dad’s favorite, Speedy Orange Cake.
When you look at old ideas through a new lens, you might find hidden treasures that you just never thought about before. The time-honored classics are just that for a reason – they already have the markings for greatness, sometimes you just need fresh eyes.

YES! I agree and believe everything happens for a reason and just because you don’t yet see that reason or may never does not mean it’s not there! My post this morning is a quote with a story by John C. Maxwell titled “You are your lens”. I love the idea of looking at life through a new lens, a new perspective, which is why I enjoy re watching movies, re reading books, re visiting places…because as I change so does my lens of the world and I think it’s an important thing to recognize in order to be able to grow. LOVE your posts so much. They are filled with such though provoking positive thinking that is inspiring. As you say “thank you, thank you, thank you!” (for such amazing posts every day).
