In Plain Sight

“Notice the small things. The rewards are inversely proportional.”

— Liz Vassey

I had planned to write about something else today, but as I was getting myself into gear and wiping the cobwebs from my writer’s mind, I saw this post glaring up at me in my draft posts folder. I wrote it on February 10, 2017, but for some reason, never posted it.

I’m sharing it with you today – better late than never. It’s a great reminder for all of us:

Hello My Dear Readers!

It’s been a while since I’ve written – 40 days in fact.

I’ve had to put blogging on the back burner to keep up with all the manifestations that I’ve been experiencing in 2017 – the fruits of all my positive thinking and believing from 2016 have started to bloom, BIG time!

I actually set a reminder to write a post today because I believe that there’s something magical about doing something for 40 days. I wrote a post about it last year, and when I went back to find it, I saw that it was about gratitude; which is obviously-not-coincidentally exactly what I’ve been hyper-focused on since this year began; and what I wanted to share with you today.

Being grateful for all the blessings you already have brings more things to be grateful for into your life.

You see, I’ve been staying with friends for a while, and I’ve had all of my belongings in storage. Last week, I finally moved into a beautiful home that looks every bit like I imagined my home would look (also no coincidence), and all my stuff from storage arrived too.

I’ve accumulated a few things over the years to say the least, and as I unpack my gazillion boxes, I am reminded of the wonderful experiences attached with each item, making me feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the beautiful, blessed life I’ve had the good fortune of living.

What’s most interesting is that my things aren’t anything extraordinary or super costly, they’re just ordinary things like my favorite 20-year old sweatshirt, my $20 dessert plates, and my most prized possession that actually brought tears to my eyes when I opened it; my toolbox. A small red plastic tool box that my dad bought for me when I first moved to California 20 years ago. He told me that it’s important to be able to fix small things around the house on your own, and it’s come in handy over the years!

I’ve always been mindful of the good fortune I have been blessed with, and I strive to always be grateful for it, but sometimes when we get caught up in focusing on what we want, but don’t have; we forget to see all that we already do have.

When we take a look back at where we’ve been in hindsight, we can see it from a fresh perspective, and it reminds us of how wonderful and rich our lives really are.

Take a look around you, and I’m sure you’ll find that you have more treasures than you realize.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
