The Power of Surrender

Day 85

“Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? What could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”

– Eckhart Tolle

When I woke up this morning, I remembered a book that I was lucky enough to stumble upon last year about one man’s 40-year journey into letting the Universe not only guide him, but decide his path for him. I wondered if I should stop trying to control my experience, and surrender to the Universe like this man had.

Michael Singer’s Surrender Experiment led him through an amazing path into self discovery, with some mind blowing experiences along the way, including being showered with abundance in all areas of his life. By simply saying “yes” to whatever came into his path, this man founded a yoga and meditation center where people can come together to experience inner peace, he created a software package that transformed the medical practice management industry, and became the founding CEO of what would become a billion dollar public company whose achievements are archived in the Smithsonian.

It got me thinking, is accepting whatever the Universe presents us at the heart of what positivity really is? Is this the real path to realizing your dreams? And maybe even manifesting more than you thought was even possible?

I caught up with a friend I hadn’t spoken with in a few years a couple of weeks ago, and I recommended this book to him at the time. He called out of the blue today to thank me for telling him about the book. He started following Singer’s example and saying “yes” to everything in his path, and it changed his life almost instantaneously. He has had a flood of new business, reconnections with people from his past, and opportunities in all areas of his life that came out of nowhere. I actually told him he looked like a pregnant woman because he was glowing and radiating positive energy so bright that it was hard to miss, a marked difference from our meeting a couple of weeks earlier.

Maybe this is a sign from the Universe that it’s time to begin my journey into total surrender too. At the very least, it’s a sign that I need to figure out how to do it and share it with you, so you can begin your journey too. So, how do we let go and let the Universe drive?

I did some research, and found many sites with a step by step process on how to surrender and go with the flow, with steps ranging from first letting go of your fears, to doing yoga, to a daily meditation and prayer practice. I think that’s overcomplicating a very simple process. Michael Singer is living proof, and all he did was say “yes” to every request and opportunity that came his way, especially when it was something he didn’t want to do.

It boils down to this: Whenever you are presented with a request or opportunity, instead of deciding if it’s something you would like or want to do, just say “yes”. Even if it’s something that you would normally reject, try to control, or otherwise resist, don’t. Don’t try to control the situation. Just relax into the resistance, go with it, and let it unfold. The only “tool” you need is trust. Trust that the Universe is infinitely better equipped to solve your problems and manifest your desires in a way that is beyond your wildest and best dreams!

Follow the path to wherever it leads you, it might just lead to the best ride of your life!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
