“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”
I’m not sure what my 7 year old niece had in mind when she painted today’s feature image, “Free“, but it speaks volumes to me. When I first saw her painting a few days ago, I was immediately drawn to it, and asked her if I could feature it on my blog. She gave her permission, but her painting didn’t fit the message of any of the posts I’ve written since, until today.
For the last week or so, I get a very intense, migraine-like headache out of the blue, at about the same time every afternoon. I consciously told myself that these headaches had become a pattern. So, today, when it hit, I made the connection between the story I told myself and my experience. Regardless of what caused the initial headache last week, somewhere along the way, I subconsciously registered a belief that I get a headache every afternoon. Now, my belief is perpetuating this daily occurrence.
Be mindful of the stories you tell yourself, they become your experience. When you have an experience with frequency and consistency, you begin to expect it, whether you want it or not. It becomes a mental habit, and your subconscious mind accepts that experience to be true. You form a belief, without even being aware you are doing so.
That is why it is important to be mindful of your thoughts, and to stop undesirable thoughts in their tracks so they do not become a part of your experience. The simple act of acknowledging the story you told yourself may be enough to remove the limiting belief in some cases, but deep rooted beliefs may take some work to remove from your subconscious mind. EFT tapping is an easy and effective method to remove limiting beliefs.
As soon as I acknowledged the story that I told myself, I was able to let go of my limiting belief, and my headache went away. Or perhaps the headaches were the universe’s way of manifesting my desire to showcase my niece’s painting. I thought of using her artwork today because I am writing about being free of my headaches, and her title matches my theme. Sometimes, when seemingly “bad” things happen, it’s the universe conspiring to make your desires a reality.
Whether you need to let go of limiting beliefs, or recognize when the universe has given you an opportunity to realize a desire, you must free your mind of the stories you tell yourself that no longer serve any purpose, and block your ability to reach your goals.
Maybe this piece of art, aptly titled Free, represents the inner significance of freeing the mind.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
