Write Your Own Script

Day 110

“Have the courage to go beyond other people’s rules and expectations. I pray that you will live and write your own story and then be brave enough to communicate it authentically to others. People will be inspired by it, people will learn from it, and people will have the courage to change their own lives because of the example you have set.”

– Maria Shriver

Every once in a while, we all need a reminder to keep believing in ourselves, to keep doing what we’re doing, to have faith that even if we don’t see results as quickly as we’d like, they will come.

It’s all timing, Divine Timing.

That’s how I was feeling today, and then a friend called to thank me for my writing. She said that she and many people in her life were inspired by my daily posts and she was grateful for it. Talk about messages from the Universe. Whoa. Right when I needed the encouragement and motivation to keep going, I received this wonderful gift. Thank you dear friend. Thank you Universe.

That was Tuesday, and then time got away from me and I was a couple of days behind on my writing. I was working to get caught up on the two overdue posts on Thursday morning when I learned the news about Prince. At that point, I already knew what I was going to write about for both posts, I just had to get the words out. I had decided on the title and beginning quote for each, and almost as soon as I had pasted the above quote, I heard the shocking news. Of course, I put a pin in the two posts and changed gears. Now I’m circling back to finish them, and I can’t help but grin at the quote and the message I had planned to write about today.

This post is about writing your own script and following your own rules, which Prince exemplified in a way that not many people do. Synchronicity. I wish there was a way that I could prove that I did in fact have the title, the quote and the thought before I heard the news about Prince, because even as I write this it sounds way too coincidental to be true. But there are no coincidences, and it really is the truth. I had been thinking about sharing a message with you about embracing and sharing your journey because I needed the reminder myself and sometimes the best way for a writer to get inspired is to write about the very inspiration they are are looking for.

I’m working on a thought that was born out of my writing, and I think it’s a really groundbreaking idea, but I need a lot of courage and conviction to implement it. I considered approaching a recognized brand to partner with in order to get my idea off the ground, but I really don’t want to do that. I’ve had lots of groundbreaking ideas in my life, and I have either sat on them and not attempted to act, and one time that I did act on an idea because I knew it was too good not to, I made the mistake of trying to get a “big fish” to swim in my little pond with me. I had to write my proposal with enough details to entice them, and then I had to sign away my rights to the idea in order to submit it for possible consideration. I never got the meeting to discuss my idea with them, and a year later that big fish had successfully implemented my idea. I think I’ll pass on the big fish this time.

So, I was looking for inspiration and courage to do this on my own. I’m still working to reach a broader audience with my writing, and I know I need to adjust my thinking – I need to clear my doubts and fears and believe with unrelenting faith that I will succeed with this blog and with my new project before I will see that success.

“You’ll see it when you believe it.”

– Wayne Dyer

Now, as I reflect on Prince’s life, it is the exact courage and inspiration I was looking for. He went beyond other people’s rules and expectations and was brave enough to communicate his story authentically. He wrote and recorded Baby I’m a Star in 1982, before his magnum opus, Purple Rain, which put him on the map as a superstar. He knew it, he believed it, and I expect he imagined his imminent stardom before it manifested. In fact he created it with unrelenting faith in his vision.

Baby I’m a star
Might not know it now
Baby but I are, I’m a star
I don’t want to stop, ’til I reach the top

You and I too, can achieve our goals by taking small steps every day towards them, by believing in ourselves and our vision, and by having unrelenting faith that they will manifest. We already write our own script because our thoughts and beliefs create our reality, so why not use the law of attraction to consciously create the life you want.

We grow and learn from each other, and when we are brave enough to authentically express our own experiences, we make a difference in our own lives as well as all those we touch. Prince did, I am, and you can too.

So, go on, get inspired to Embrace Your Journey.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
